New interactive Play Corridor opens at Leys Pool & Leisure Centre

We have officially opened our new outdoor Play Corridor, a vibrant and engaging walking route designed to encourage children and families to be more active as they move around the centre.

The play corridor transforms an everyday pathway into a lively and interactive space that encourages activity, through colourful ground markings and playful features. The corridor helps make active travel more appealing for children, while supporting healthier lifestyles across the community.

Adam Godwin, our Active Communities Manager, said:

“This reflects a shared commitment to improving opportunities for physical activity and wellbeing in the local community.  We’re proud to support initiatives that help people be active in ways that fit easily into daily routines. The Play Corridor is a fantastic example of how communities can be encouraged to move more through creative and welcoming spaces.”

To celebrate the opening, a ribbon cutting took place on Saturday 7th March, attended by representatives from Oxford City Council, Active Oxfordshire and our centre, recognising the collaborative effort that brought the project to life.

Healthy Active Neighbourhoods Manager, Ellie, for Active Oxfordshire, said:

“We’re really proud of this project because it hasn’t just been designed for the community — it’s been designed with them. Residents told us what they’d love to see in this space through conversations and surveys, brought their ideas to life in a street chalking session, and those drawings shaped the final design. It’s now a colourful, vibrant space, and it’s fantastic to see it already bringing people together — being used and enjoyed by people of all ages, helping everyone be more active and have fun.”

Councillor Chewe Munkonge, Cabinet Member for a Healthy, Fairer Oxford, Oxford City Council, said:

“The arrival of the new Play Corridor is a colourful addition to Leys Pool and Leisure Centre. This initiative is a fantastic example of making physical activity both accessible and fun.”

The outdoor Play Corridor is open for residents, families and visitors to enjoy as part of the wider effort to promote active, healthy communities in Oxford. To find out what else we offer, click below.
